USTA Rankings Girls 16s as of 5/9/08
#1 Northern Indiana - #71 Midwest - #981 National.
Freshman? That is not what you would think watching Ashlyn Rang from Bishop Dwenger play. Ashlyn is 19-0 as a freshman at Number One Singles this year! She recently won the 1st Singles Flight at the Concordia Invitational. Ashlyn told us - "I really felt like I had to work for some of the matches. I loved the support I had from family, friends and coaches. It definitely helped me get through the tougher matches."
Ashlyn had a tough semi-final match against Katie Sanderson from Michigan City which she won in a 3rd set Super Tiebreaker. Following that marathon match she played Claire Liles from Canterbury in the final and was victorious 6-4, 6-0!
"Playing Number One singles as a freshman is really an honor. I know it sounds cheesy, but that is how I feel about it each time I represent my school on the court," Ashlyn said.
Ashlyn is now gearing up to get through the upcoming Sectionals, Regionals and hopefully State. We wish Ashlyn the best of luck as she makes strides toward an amazing freshman year!
